Let’s Groove, Baby

After having my son, I’m finally pursuing an idea that I had while I was in graduate school.  While studying Ethnomusicology at the University of Washington in Seattle, I met musicians and music researchers from all over the world.  I always wanted to start a “mommy and me” type of music class for babies and toddlers, and it seemed natural to incorporate my work in Ethnomusicology and World Music into these classes.  When children are exposed to rhythms, languages and tonalities other than the culture that they live in, they internalize the patterns in a way different from adults.  We all know that babies are sponges, and that exposing them to other languages from birth gives them a significant advantage to being multi-lingual as they learn to express themselves.  This is a similar concept with exposing them to music from around the world when they are young!  Your child will dance and interact with traditional children’s music from all over the world, while developing social, cognitive, dexterity and general music skills along with way.

Let’s Groove, Baby! courses are broken up by age groups, with three age groups for children, and an adult course where parents can learn to sing and play their children’s favorite lullabies or kids’ songs on the guitar or ukulele.  Visit Let’s Groove, Baby! for a full list of course offerings and more information!
